Rajwada is a historical palace in Indore city. It was built by the Holkars of the Maratha Empire about two centuries ago. Rajwada palace exhibits a blend of Maratha styles,the entrance itself is beautiful with wooden door covered with iron studs.The lower three floor are made of stone and the upper floor are made of wood.The palace was constructed by the Muslim artisans from Mandu who worked for the Marathas. Today it stands proudly with it's 7-story facade of carved stone and wood jails jharokhas and chattries.It has burnt three times in history.This building was to be rebuilt by Usha Raje Holkar and designed by architects Himanshu Dudwadkar and Shreya Bhargavo on the 200-year old blue print using the same material and finishes.
The rajwada palace is always crowded by locals as well as travelers who visit Indore and it is uncommon to find huge crowds at the palace all times of the day.It between the crowed streets of the Kajuri bazar and facing the main square of the city.The garden is well maintained and palace has a statue of Queen Ahliya Bai an artificial waterfall and some beautiful fountain are also placed.
